Celestine is a little mouse who dreams of avoiding a career in dentistry, while Ernest is a big bear looking for an artistic outlet. When their paths cross, they overcome their natural differences and embark on an unlikely life of crime together.

Fabrica will screen the English-language dub of this Oscar-nominated film, featuring a star-studded voice cast led by Forest Whitaker and Mackenzie Foy.

How can two very different mammals find common ground? Maybe by painting - or by creating a place to call home.

Inspired by the original Ernest & Celestine books, whose beautiful illustrations use watercolour, we’ll spend time before the film imagining a home where a mouse and a bear could live together. You’ll have the chance to experiment with watercolour and create your own ideas for their shared space.

Pencils and collage materials will also be available for younger participants and anyone who would rather avoid paint.

For inspiration, Esther is looking to the work of Monique Martin (also known as Gabrielle Vincent), author and illustrator of the original Ernest & Celestine books. Her expressive watercolours beautifully capture the emotions of the characters and show just how versatile the medium can be.
